this super warm weather we've been having in Southern CA is warming up the water. Ocean is 62 - 64. Light winds, calm seas tonight. But enough for sailing. Saw lots of working birds. Out came the fishing gear for the first time in months.
2 barracudas hit as I was releasing the lures. One was even legal size (28 inches).
Sailed around and fished for another hour. Got one more and one got away.
All fish in 80 feet of water directly off the roller coaster. All released unharmed.
Now if I had got a yellow tail, that would have come home in the back of the van!!!!
Jim, Darn, I can't wait until Little League season is over so my week nights will be free. I'll steer, you fish
Bad news for the 15th though. I'm having a heart catheterization done on the 14th so I'll be on the binnacle list for a couple of weeks; even longer if they have to fix something. I hope to get the mast done before then.
I enjoyed your pics on the other thread. The joys of sailing are magnified many times when shared with family and friends
'cudas are not good unless bled and iced right away. Then it's not bad. Fisherman here call them "logs" or "slimes". Bonita are the same way - bleed and ice as soon as caught. Hopefully we can barbeque some soon. I like roasted with barbeque sauce, cooked in terraki, or poached in lemon and butter with garlic. The holy grail is Yellowtail. I'll put some on board in the next few weeks (they are not quite here yet).
Mike - hope your procedure works out and is negative. Lets schedule something and get that mast done and back up. It's a pain keeping it there on the finger pier.
Two weeks ago, some friends and I went fishing for trophy rockfish (aka Striped Bass) out of Chesapeake Beach MD. We caught about 25 fish, all legal size, but were allowed to keep only one each. Mine at 35 inches was the smallest. The largest was 42 inches (about 26 pounds). We trolled day-glo yellow lures at the edge of the shipping channel.
