Does anyone have a source for the vinyl-covered batting used as the hull-bulkhead interface on a 1980 C-25? Since I'm replacing all the fire-damaged bulkheads, I need the batting. The local marine supply guy suggested using cotton caulk wrapped in duct tape. Only as an emergency, I feel.
'Sorry I can't help you on a source for the batting, except to suggest trying an RV supply place ... there seem to be quite a few things used in RVs that can also be used in our boats.
What I'm wondering is, what purpose does the batting serve? A strip of the stuff pulled out from the port bulkhead in my boat ... I don't know whether to replace it or not ...
Edit: BTW, David Luckenbach replied that he does have a bulkhead for a C-25 (reply was in the "Swap" section, I think)... did he have what you needed?
Jon, Try a company called TRIM-LOK Inc. They sell all kinds of "edge" trim materials that may be better than what Catalina put on the boats. Their webb site is www.trimlok.com (this not a link) Check it out you may be pleased.
Buzz - I believe it would help deaden any really annoying sound that might occur when the hull and bulkheads would torque at different rates. Especially the forward ones where things aren't quite as stiff as further aft. - Jon
I always thought that it was simply cosmetic, to cover up any imperfections at the point where the bulkheads meet the hull (or liner).
A while ago I sourced some batting at a local True Value store (Home Depot didn't have it), however it was sort of dark brown, rubbery stuff, thus not a great match to the original (but sufficient). I was putting in a semi-half-bulkhead between the quarterberth and the starboard cabin seat. After realizing that there isn't any batting on the half-bulkhead between the starboard cabin seat and the stove, I decided not to use any on the other side, as well.
