I spent the first weekend of the season on "Peregrine". It rained Saturday night but my enclosure for the pop top and a cockpit canopy kept me dry. It’s great to be back on the water and Oyster Bay is glorious this time of year. It was a long cold winter now it’s time to sail. One small glitch. The cover of my trusty Sailmaster refuses to latch tight. I need it to be secure so I can tilt the engine after raising it. I can’t see anything broken with the latch. Any suggestions? I have thought of drilling some holes and using tie wraps but would like to avoid that.

Gee John, every motor cover latch I've seen is pretty elementary so as to remain trouble free. If it refuses to latch tight maybe some part of the latch mechanism is bent or out of adjustment or something (hose or wire) is partially impeding it on the inside?
Good luck and let us know once you've got it figured out.
my sailmaster/yachttwin is difficult to close. I wrestle with it a bit and always win, but often can not see any difference from when I can't get it closed and when it does close.
If it means the difference between sailing RIGHT NOW or working on some finicky latch, save the latch for late at night and just use duct tape. Do you really care what it looks like at this point in the year?
