I am replacing the light mounted on my bulkhead with a new one. On the new light the wires are red and white. On the old they are black and white. I assume I should connect the white to the same wire as the original and the red to the other(which was connected to the black), but I thought I'd ask.
Sounds correct, but to make sure I take a volt meter put it on DC volts 15, turn the power on in the boat, then put the plus meter lead to the black and neg meter lead to the white. You should read around 12 volts. If the meter goes the other way reverse the meter wires and check the reading. This will tell you the positive lead. On the new light the red should be the positive and white the neg or gnd. When I have different colored wires I always like to double check the power wires and once positive found I put some masking tape on it with a plus sign.
