I have just installed a new replacement Garhauer Motor Mount purchased direct from them. Yep, it is an exact fit to the old holes on Kije' except that it has bronze bushings and double springs. It goes down easily and I must admit the popping up motor easily facinates me! The leaning over the rail days are over.
I did reuse the old stainless L brackets for inside backing plates. They are easily removed from the old Garhauer mount and fit perfectly on the inside hull as backing plates. A good use for old equipement.
Frank, I thought you were happy with the Garelick? The Garhauer didn't have enough spring lift?
I know this is one beat-up old horse.... but does anyone know if they (Garhauer and CD) have finally improved the lift springs yet? I've read through all (yes all) of the archive files and the post from a year ago quote Lowell as having it completed within a month or two back then.
Also, I don't have a Taco Starboard retailer close by, but I'm wondering if I can use that new decking material from Home Depot? It's a plastic material that looks like real wood, used to replace redwood decks. Just a thought.
Mark, I can't speak to the specific plastic decking that is at Home Depot but the "Trex" that I used for my backyard deck is much too soft to be useful as a backer board. It tends to migrate away from fasteners. Also, your local sailboat shop, Sailboats Of Bakersfield, is a "Port Supply" affiliate which is West Marine's wholesale department. They can get you anything you can find in the West Marine catalog, including "Taco Starboard".
I checked out your web page, and your boat at the dock and wow, that background looks framiliar. Recognized Hungtington Lake right off. We sail there every summer for the past 30 years. It's our favorite spot. We recently purchased a Catalina 25 SK, no trailer yet. So we will not be bringing it up to Huntington. If your there during the Regatta we would love to check out the ideas you've done to your boat, especially the galley area.
We are always trying to get ideas for our boat. We're considering changing the motor mounting system too. We can't prop the motor out of the water all the way, so we are looking at other Catalina's to see how motor's are mounted.
I thought they only delt with small Hobie's and canoe's. I'll give them a call. Is your boat here in town or do you have it at the coast? I'm just finishing a complete bottom job and motor change. I hope to be up at Huntington in a few weeks.

Also mine required new holes.
Hi Mark and Debbie, Mark, my boat is currently in town and probably will be until about July 10/11. At that time it will be in a slip at Lakeshore until the end of the season. I have a few more changes/additions I want to make before I drag it up to Huntington. Also, I didn't mention it last night, but SOB is also a Catalina dealer and has access to anything you may need from Catalina (I have no finicial interest, just long term friends) Debbie, I will be there for the Mile High Regatta on Aug 7/8 working race committee on the point. Atually, I'll be there Aug 2nd thru 14th. If that coincides with your stay, look me up.
