I just purchased a new Raymarine (Raytheon) ST2000+ autopilot at the Miami Boat Show for $517 from Sailnet. Great price and they sell the unit with a free remote control (comes with a 20 foot wire, no screen feedback, but has +1, +10, -1, -10 keys). Ray

Albert,

My memory is fading fast so I'll not answer your question directly for fear of misleading you. I do remember that it was necessary to use an interface box from Autohelm. The wiring directions are on the boat and I'll look for it when next the

My Garmin Data Cable has a Brown Data Out and a White Data In set of wires. The ST2000 has port 5 for NMEA - and port 6 for NMEA +. I've tried connecting both ways with no success. The GPS is set for NMEA protocol at 4800 baud.

Thanks for the info. Followed the instructions and it worked!

What's the difference between:
1)Grounding the Autohelm NMEA - with the autopilot ground vs.
2)Grounding at a common grounding plate vs.
3)Grounding at the Garmin?

My guess as to why operation is irradic if the NMEE- wire is not grounded back to the Garmin is either one of two things.
