I purchased a ML-2 Bow light/deck spotlight combination from Forespar. This 3-wire light has separate switching. My C25 has a six switch panel. I wired this new bow (steaming) light to the deck light switch in the boat, but had to run a separate wire from the spot light to a new switch in the boat. This wire is #12 copper. Since the mast wire is tin {?} I'm wondering if this kind of wire is ok to use? It also means punching another hole in the deck. Hate to do it but do not see an alternative. Any advice from others who have installed steaming/deck light combinations? Cliff Hynniman
Un-tinned copper wire will deteriorate in a few years when exposed to a saltwater environment. Freshwater use is not a big issue.
The 'Bristol' way to do go through the deck is to consolidate the wiring into a single marine-spec bundled cable passed through a waterproof deck fitting. (but that means replacing your original wiring too).
Doesn't it seem time for someone to provide wireless switching? One hot, one ground and remote switches. My remote 2.4 gig Hz X box remote has a dozen functions at least we just need the receiving switches.
Thanks. The boat will be in fresh water. I just rewired the mast with a kit from Catalina Direct. Also replaced the VHF cable and added cable for a Navman wind instrument. That little 3/4 conduit is bulging at the seams. Had to run the #12 copper wire outside the conduit.
