Go ahead and laugh, it's OK.
But, at ten bucks for the pair at the local drug store, it'll keep your head cool when the winds are light.

Great idea! And when the wind picks up you can tilt 'em forward and have 2 small bilateral chutes...

Well done guys. It was sure good to see you on Sunday. We'll be out this saturday in the morning it looks like. I have some of my wife's family from out of town - going out on a "3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour".

Also, some news from our discussion. I think I'm going to have West River Rigging do my boom topping lift for me. That have a design that controls from the end of the boom rather than a halyard. Might be a bit easier when singlehanding, but we'll see.

I really like those clutches you have. Been thinking of doing something similar to keep my sheet in order.

And a question too... do you suffer from the "leaky companionway" that so many of us do? And have you found a working solution if you do?

Please excuse my interloping but your boom end spends very little time within reach of a helm'sman. Boom end control is the antithesis of what a single hander is after. Gooseneck end control is better (at least it is always reachable if you tie off your helm) and cabintop is best (it is reachable from the helm.

If your terminology is accurate then you should be told that clutches are very dangerous for sheets. You MUST be able to "cast off" a sheet in an instant to be safe, you cannot cast off a sheet in a clutch, and any fouling will stop the sheet from being released through the clutch.

Shawn, we hope to be out on Saturday too. We'll watch for ya.
For the record, I don't have sheets running through my clutches. I use them for the main halyard, topping lift, boom vang, and two reef lines. I added a triple where Catalina installed a single, on the port side. The only place I found the brand that Catalina used is Sailnet. Here's a link to the Andersen Easylock Mini Rope Clutches.

I haven't noticed any leaks from the companionway. I know from experience though the boat has to be level for the forward hatch and companionway to drain. If the stern is low, the forward hatch leaks, and if the bow is low, the companionway hatch leaks.

Penny II came with Spinlock XAS clutches. So I use Spinlock XAS 1/8 to 5/16 (4-8mm) when I ran everything back to cockpit. This allowed me to use the two existing holes from the singles to mount the triples and this gave me a template for the other four holes. One thing you find out is that the SS bolts and barrel nuts costs are almost as much as a clutch when you figure 10 of each for the two deck orgainizers and 8 of each for the two triples.

Dave,

Saturday is beginning to look a little iffy, but I may be down for a bit. The topping lift is going on today - just call a call from the rigger. And I'm going to add a Davis Tiller Tamer for those brief sorties to the head locker and other necessary trips forward away from the helm. Decided to hold off on the lazy jacks for a while - the Admiral is weighing in with her usual frugality.
