With all of the answers to the question about the depth of a swing keel Cat 25 and the problem encountered with the rudder grounding I would like to know how much my fixed keel draws.

Someone recently posted an interesting tidbit. I think it was that a 25 sinks 1 inch for every 600 lb that is added.

Thats about right. Skenes (Elements of Yacht Design)has a nomagraph for PPI (pounds per inch immersion) that suggests 520 lbs / inch. Of course this assumes loading at Center of Floatation or evenly distributed around it. Dave

On the fin keel 25 the bilge is a great place to store wine for those long trips. I have personally noted that when rowing back to land from my mooring, I can tell how much wine has been consumed because the waterline rises one quarter inch per case...

Will I get better ballast with regular beer compared with "lite" beer. What about the mico-brews? They always seem heavier. Maybe I should go with the German dark beers. They seem really heavy.

The micros have heavier bottles as well as heavier taste... Coors is neutral ballast, while Coors light will make the boat turn upside down!

Dave-- It is amazing how we think alike. Could you be the evil twin my folks say they cast off in a reed basket?
