Yesterday, I completed a project I've had in mind for a while. Mention has been made on the forum about how the 6 gal. Tempo tanks just don't fit on the older Cat-25s with the small shelf in the cockpit locker. I built a 16"X20" shelf about 11" or so below the molded gastank shelf. The 6gal tank sits level there just fine. With a 3gal tank on the upper shelf and 6gal on the lower there is plenty of immediate fuel for quite a range. There is stowage under the new shelf for stuff. I put some fenders there and hold them in with a swinging wooden stopper so they don't slide down the locker. Shelf was made with some aluminum angle irons with board bolted on. The outboard end of shelf has an aluminum strut bolted to angle iron on molded shelf top edge and the lower shelf board. I put an angle iron on the upper shelf also to help keep the small tank from sliding. One angle iron was bolted to the wooden partition between quarter berth and cockpit locker, the others were put on with lag screws which seem to be holding OK. Those could be thru bolted if one wanted to cut an access hole from inside to beneath the molded shelf. There is still room for a skinny guy like me to sneak down in the cockpit locker if necessary.
