Hi, Gary and I had a great time sailing Friday after work, then anchoring and rafting up in Mariner's cove for a pot luck. Bedtime finally rolled around sometime after 10. It was a little windy all night and I had anchoring dreams. I dreamed that the tide was so low that a mud island rose out of the cove. We were still in deep water, but there was land all around us. In the morning, we woke to very low tide and the sight of several big dollar power boats aground near the beach.
Well, after making sure we were still floating, we had a great breakfast of pancakes and fried ham, juice, and coffee. I was sailing out the harbor mouth by 8:30 (late start). By 9 I had my first fish on board. I got 10 baracuda in the first hour, a couple were HUGE, up to about 10 pounds. All day, I caught and released 12 fish. A great fishing day.
I turned back at 11:30, just 10 miles from the north Coronado island (Mexico) and about 9 miles as the crow flies from home base (4 to 5 miles offshore of Pt. Loma). Back in the slip by 2, boat cleaned up and on the road by 3, home by 4, and to a dinner get together by 5. Don't you just love it when a plan comes together?
Winds were good all day, boat speeds never below 5, often in the 6s. Seas were 1 to 2 and choppy. Skies grey, with a bit of afternoon sun. Fish loved the black and purple Rapalla.
Fleet 7 sailors - it doesn't get better than this. Join us for the next raft up!!!!
Dinner potluck on Friday night on my boat, breakfast on Jim's boat, now all we need is a third to have lunch covered. Eating is good but you MUST bring the right food . 5 minutes before leaving for 4 days on Classical Cat I realized I needed food so I hit the pantry and the fridge, threw ice in the ice chest and left.....not good, bad. I did find a store Friday
Sailing, sailing, sailing. Next time I will plan some meals.
Jim, next time we're out wandering the Pacific let's just plug in our GPS coordinates so we can find each other. Honestly, I thought you'd disappeared off the horizon (you HAD) but the clouds and the fact you have "short" rig meant that I couldn't see you over 5 miles away.
