I'm finally in the water and now it seems the head is not working. This is my first season with my '81 C25. The head does not fill with anything when I pump. I know the intake valve is on. I'm thinking the PO did not do much in the way of maintainence. I'm thinking the seals are are worn somewhere. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

On my boat the head intake line was the same as the sink drain. I had to put a plug in the sink or I would be only pumping air when trying to fill the head

Check that out

Good Luck

Often, if the pump is bone dry, you need to prime the system by pouring some water into the bowl.

Try putting a bit of vegetable oil in the bowl to lubricate the seals. I agree with Mark, fill the bowl half-full (or more) with water to see if you can prime the pump.

Does it pump fluids out into your holding tank but not draw in water?
What you might do, as I have done several times, is to remove the six screws holding the pump head in place. This has the pump handle in the center. Carefully remove this "cover" piece because it has the pump flappers between it and the main trunk column. Mine had some salt build-up preventing the flaps from resealing so that the pump would not work. Clean these off carefully and you might be able to replace this whole seal/flapper (black) part without damage. If the seal is broken or real stiff you will have to buy a pump rebuild kit from WM or another source. I just did this last weekend even though the seal was still good. I will have a replacement when the seal fails completely. Mine now works just fine.
Another thing to do is to get some silicon grease and smear it on the plunger rod and the plunger cup and pump tube. This will make it work smoothly....better than Exlax
Hope this helps.
