Many businesses are cyclical, in that they will offer you a great deal if they want to increase their market share, and then start gouging you when they are fat dum and happy. (phone companies, banks etc.)

I called several insurance providers re. Lady Kay and found a huge difference in what they were willing to offer, and what they were charging for it.

Right now Progressive is agressively trying to increase their share of the Marine Coverage industry. If you're in the market for insurance, check them out.....

At the present time can't beat them. They came in almost half of our previous carrier.

From the experiences of some friends, BoatUS (CNA) is hard to beat for claims service. They know boats and work well with the repairers. That's a good souce to check--the guys who fix boats and collect from the carriers--see what some of them think about who lets them do things right and is flexible as the work progresses.

I just had a similar discussion with a guy who runs a home-restoration business (when a neighbor had devastating water damage). Got a reading on my carrier and some others he likes to work with--as well as the ones he's learned to refuse. The quality of their local adjustors is a big factor.

Agreed on both counts. And, Boat US does come through.

I got Progressive through a sailing savvy marine insurance broker in Annapolis (Found his ad in the back of Ocean Navigator). He arranges insurance from Bay sailing to world cruises in typhoon country. He was impressed with the claims and the speed of handling he had seen with Progressive.

(No I don't get referral fees...)
