Is there a consensus on the best bottom paint for racing? Lots of people advocate Interlux VC-17. There's also VC-17 offshore and a new variant with Biolux. Is one better than another in fresh water?
Are there other paints that are just as slippery through the water with better slime resistance? Frankly, I can't see myself scrubbing the bottom every week in the Potomac. It's pretty "yucky" for swimming.

I use VC-17M w/Biolux here in the fresh water of Lake Erie and I really like the performance thus far.
As for what will work best in your environment, I would walk around the marinas in your area and ask fellow sailors, especially the racers, what they use and how it performs.
Bruce, One heads-up . . . if you go with either product you DON'T need to use a pressure washer at end of season. A garden hose with a normal spray head will do just fine. The pressure washer will greatly reduce the life of the VC-17.
We have a terrible problem with slime at our lake, and Biolux has reduced the problem enormously. For racing, the bottom, keel and rudder still need to be scrubbed lightly, but that can be done reasonably well from the dock, with long-handled scrubbers designed for that purpose. I used Tri Lux with Biolux on my boat, just to see if I liked it, but I haven't found a better modern racing bottom paint than VC 17.
I agree with Steve (again! this is getting to be a habit ) My boatyard/racing guru recommended VC-17 Offshore - he says that it gets harder and smoother the more you clean it. Derek
