I attached my VHF antennae this year before my WK sprung a leak. Last year I never bothered to stick it on. Anyway, it's a thin wire type with two bends, not much thicker than a wire clothes hanger, and it sticks into a reddish rubber thingamagig at the top of the mast. Is it normal for the antenae to swing around in that rubber piece holding it. I can feel metal inside the rubber bit. The rubber part is simply a sleave I suspect.
What brand is the antenna - Metz or Shakespere? If Metz, the red rubber thing is just a sleeve to keep water out of the connector. The whip should not be "swinging around", the actual connection between the loading coil and the antenna whip is a compression fitting, and it should hold the whip tightly with no free play. Slide the red rubber thing off so you can see the compression fitting. I am not sure what you mean when you say the antenna "has two bends" in it. The whip should be straight, with no bends. It may be damaged?
