These are pictures I just found from the beer can race on June 16. This is uncorrected racing and we tend to get creamed - as the the hardware around us suggests. All the boats around us are cruising class.
We went on to beat the J42 rounding the pin in the second picture boat for boat that night in addition to a J32 behind the boat taking this picture
This is where the optomistic C25 sailor chimes in to say that a well prepared C25 is capeable of beating those boats, if we would only learn to trim our sails correctly

He didn't say he could beat some of those boats. He said he did beat them. That's not optimism. That's fact. If you would only learn to trim your sails correctly, you could do it too!

quote:
This is my point Steve, why can't I beat a sunfish?

The problem is either with the boat or the sailor. We know the boat's basic design is good enough to enable it to perform well. But, if the bottom and keel and rudder aren't properly maintained so that they are smooth, clean, free of algae, slippery, etc., that will slow the boat a lot. I suggest you ask a skilled sailor (preferably a racer) to look at your boat and sail with you, and make suggestions as to how you can best improve your performance.
Also, don't feel bad about being beaten by a Sunfish. In a fresh breeze, they can plane fairly easily, and they should be able to beat a C25. I've had the little buggers pass me, too.
