While our Fleet 94 website shows only about 16 boats registered, there are a number of entries stuck somewhere in the mail. At last count, I am aware of at least 21 paid entries, and one more has verbally committed. STILL...THAT IS NOT ENOUGH WITHOUT YOU! If you live within a few hundred miles, this should be at the top of your list....take a couple of days off work and join us! (It was just reported that the Olsen 30 Nationals in Seattle drew 19 boats...so we are right there with the race guys)
IT IS NOT TOO late to join this great party/regatta/rendezvous in Portland, Oregon!
We have a very nice fleet of standard rigs, but only 3 250s and 3 tall rigs so far.
Remember, if you don't want to "RACE", come and join in the fun and socializing and participate in "FUN FLEET" activities, but remember the water toys!
Racing, food, trophies, door prizes, great beer, a photographer, wine, free moorage, a barbeque, teeshirts, a spectator boat, a raffle, seminars, optional cruises, and (hopefully) a week of sun and wind on the beautiful Columbia River.
Any last minute entries should be sent to:
Gary Bruner 27009 N.E. 114th Ave. Battle Ground, WA 98604
OR call me at 360 687 2048 to let me know you are coming...or to ask for more info. and you could register ATTHE EVENT on Wednesday, July 14.
Gary, in my efforts to prepare for this "Must Attend" event, in my head I was going through the process of trailing the boat down and began wondering what the height of the freeway underpass was after I come off the freeway at Janzen Beach. It's probably plenty high enough, but I couldn't help imagining jamming my boat under it. Would you know the height or could you check next time you pass through? Thanks.
On another topic, it looks like only one will be attending the wine tasting/dinner from my group. Everyone is begging out on that one. Hope I still have crew for the races!
John, I was just out there today and considering the number of boats that are trucked out of there I would have to imagine that it is high enough. Are you going to sling your boat in or ramp launch?
If you are going to ramp launch you'll want to use the 42nd street launch.
I was out tonight, John, getting whomped by Terry's big spinnaker. Going in tomorrow and I will scope it out..but, like Ray, I cannot imagine a problem. What do you "draw" in the air (height) with your fin rig on the trailer? 11 feet or so? I will see if it is marked....
BTW: One CAN turn R. at the light after the exit then R. again and under the freeway, taking the Left near the back side of Taco Bell. I see semis going that way all the time. I suggested the other way because it seems easier.
Picked up another entry just today! (a FUN Fleeter)
Oh, those big spinnakers are going to be trouble. I have a smaller asymetrical. Oh well, I keep telling myself I'm there for the beer, and in between, we drive our boats around in circles.
I think the boat on the trailer is right about 11'. I'll measure it again once it's back on the trailer.
I am praying that the wind will be so strong during the races that spinakers won't be needed. With my inexperienced crew, I am still pretty sure that I will be sailing spinaker-less. I flew my asymetrical this Saturday and my wife's comment was, "I am NOT going out on the front of the boat for that!!!" End of story.
Sanded, primed and painted the keel yesterday. Not perfectly smooth and faired, but as smooth as it is going to get. Now for the 12 hour drive. (12 if I'm lucky)
Ed....we are mostly all splashed. A few come in on Wednesday. Give me a call on my cell at 360 721 3468 so I can send you help to the ramp. We have a skipper's meeting from 9-11, but we can spare some helpers for you.
Do you need experienced crew? I have a guy who would like to crew on a boat! Call the cell number; I will be at the marina all day on Wednesday.
Good luck to all those involved with Nationals. I will be with you in spirit, as I'm sure the rest of us will be. Gary has worked tirelessly and should be commended. Hope to see photos. Be safe and have a blast. Fair (race) winds. Todd Frye
