Hi:
I would like to add a one inch long spacer under the bolt and plate that holds the main sheet onto the back of the boom. Does anyone know the size, and lenght of the bolt, appears to be 3/8 or 1/2 size bolt, lenght is unknown. Reason for this is the new Bimini folded up and resting on the support poles gets a little to close to the main sheet mounting bracket and I would like just a little extra clearance.

I'll be pulling my boom cap off in a week or so... but that's no help to you now !

I'd just buy an 'assortment' of stainless bolts that bracket the sizes you think you'll need.

On my boat I have about 25 lbs of stainless bolts, screws, washers, nutz etc... in various sizes. Keep 'em in partitioned tackleboxes. Having these bits and pieces handy has saved HOURS of time when working on the boat.

I do the same thing. Plano makes some tackle boxes as big as medium sized ice chests, and they can really handle the weight of tools or hardware. Being plastic, they won't corrode or leave rust stains on your boat -- they're designed for marine use. Another technique is to get more than one smaller tackle box, which makes them easier to carry and store. For instance, I have a separate one just for electrical parts and tools.

When running to the hardware store for a fist full of fasteners or whatever, I round the quantities up. That way, if I loose one, or one is defective, I can still complete the task at hand. Leftovers go in the tacklebox. I buy small nuts, washers, crimp connectors, etc. in boxes of 50 or 100.
