Sorry, that this is probably been covered a dozen times.... but I am replacing the to-hulls with new Thru-hulls, and I am have difficulty getting those dang bronze pipes out.... what is the best way to get that done without cause anymore damage than necessary? Not much room to work in there....... Help!
I plan on doing my to-hulls next month and I hope it is an easy job. Anyway, in an earlier message concerning mast sheaves, a website was provided that also had information on replacing the to-hulls. Check it out.
There may be some confusion here. The earlier C25's have cockpit drains in the cockpit sole. They have nice drain screens and go straight down to separate to-hull fittings just like the sinks. The hoses and to-hulls can be seen by removing the inspection plate at the back of the quarter berth. The later models have the cockpit drains exiting out and through the transom. There hasn't been much concern about these to-hulls because they aren't under the stresses of valves being opened and closed. As you have found, these volcano like to-hulls can be very tight and secure. My galley sink was very loose, I just hand turned it out, while the sink in the head had to be removed with a pipe wrench and some puffing. Once the brass pipe was removed, I used a small 4" hand grinder to remove the 'gloop-of-goo' down to flush to the hull and installed the new brass thru-hull sealed with 3M 5200. My to-hulls were 1/2" so I replaced with 1/2" thru-hull. If I were to do it again I would go with 3/4" replacement or even 1". A kernel of corn will stop up a 1/2" thru-hull. I keep a mini plunger under the galley sink for clearing the stop-ups.
