I know that this is a sailing site, but.....

Is anyone else out there as excited as I am about Lance Armstrong making up 5 minutes in today's mountain stage. What a stud.

Maybe they can hook up some kind of pedals for him to grind in the next America's cup. Would the rules permit that?

I am really frustrated by the lack of coverage on this incredible event. Our second son survived cancer, but lost a leg to it. I tell ya...these people who survive the big "C" are amazing, but then to go on and do what Lance is doing is super human. Come on Lance. Show 'em your dust buddy. I'm with you Frank. Todd Frye

OLN (Outdoor Life Network) is doing extensive coverage of the Tour De France for those of you who have cable.

I am a huge Tour fan. I have Lance's autographed picture on my wall. Whether Lance wins or not it’s the greatest sporting event there is.
I also don’t get OLN so….
I go to the Tour de France web site each morning and follow the race live with text updates every 3-4 minutes and listen to Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwin streaming live over the internet. The audio is archived and can be heard anytime. I have relived past races through out the winter when I’m sitting on my trainer pumping away on the those snowy winter days. Sick huh?

So what happened this morning? Ullrich and Hamilton got creamed. Tomorrow is another tough day in the mountains but Lance may have won his sixth today.

My passion for biking (mountain and road) is a close second to my love for being on a boat. I've followed Lance since he was just a high school amateur racing around Plano, Texas. He is truly a freak of nature (and I mean that in a good way).

I remember reading an article about him in Bicycling magazine about 15 years ago when he was still breaking into the pro scene. He was put in the Olympic facility chamber in Colorado for a VO2 max test. His muscle/oxygen utilization effeciency was so high it was beyond the known human numbers available. The best they could extrapilate the data to was that of a big cat (i.e. jaguar, cheetah). He is really one of a kind. His body does things no one elses can.

Riding of this caliber is almost incomprehisable to me. I think people who don't ride cannot truly appreciate what this event is like. I look at speeds and duration of these stages (much less doing them day after day) and am amazed. If I ride for a couple of hours at twenty-ish mph on relatively flat terrain I am totally wasted. These guys (even the tail-end Charlies) are animals. I've heard it as akin to NFL players playing two full games a day for a couple of weeks on end. In our parlance I suppose it would be like putting out solo in a C-22 with nothing but a compass, food and water for a circumnavigation.

I raced against Lance last fall at a local duathalon(run/mtb bike/run). He really is amazing. He is also a nice guy off the bike as well. Quite personable and an athlete who gives back to his community. GoLance!!!

Thanks Cathy,
I don't have cable but a search on OLN produced just what I was looking for. None of my other searches gave me anything other than the French trying to break into Lances room. This is great. Thank you. Todd Frye

OLN has basically turned into the Tour De France channel. If you like racing, they are all over it.

I agree, what he's done and doing now are incredible feats. And I still like the commercial where he revives a faltering circus elephant, then gets on his bike and quietly rides away.
