I'd like to run all lines aft, but I don't want to spend $300 (A couple of 3-line clutches, deck organizers, and blocks, etc.)

Albert,

Here are some low cost opinons...(and I may be the biggest cheap A@# bast@#d on this site)

1. No need to run reefing lines aft because you have to get up out of the cockpit to tie down the sail anyway.
2. I used the catalina direct Base p

YOu could save on the up-dated/up-graded mast base plate and use an
eye bolt with eye-nut as a replacement to the standard mast bolt. Then you can attach your blocks/swivels to each side.

I have to gently disagree with Duane's #1. Always run the reefing line back to the cockpit - it is the quickest and safest method of reefing. Also, it is not necessary to tie down the sail with those little lines. I had a sailmaker tell me he loved to see

When I installed the deck organizers, I did the over sized drilling, epoxy and redrill, then thru-bolted and used the large stainless fender washers as backing plates. The oversized drilling doesn't have to be much larger than the finished hole size, the

Hi Albert...

I'm just getting into the same project. Here are a few of my conclusions so far:

- The best solution at the base of the mast is the inexpensive plate from Catalina Direct. Its advantage is that the mast and rig hold everything down.

Duane - quite frankly, we ignore the "slop" (someone once told me a way to tuck it - but it never seems to work!) In need-to-reef conditions we are usually too busy to worry about it - and it doesn't seem to cause problems.
