Does putting a boat with ablative paint on a trailer remove the paint where trailer contact occurs?

Nope. I am pretty sure that trailering/ launching/ being out of the water for a time, is why they developed it.

Albert,

Not to be contrary to Gary, but I just asked a surveyor about this a few weeks ago and also asked the yard that fixed my lightning strike damage. They said the same thing: bottom paint does not have the UV protection of 'regular' paint and needs to remain 'shaded' (by the hull) and wet. Trailering the boat even occassionally will, in time, indeed rub the paint off at the rollers/bunk boards. The yard guy recommended against it for me, particularly because I dry-slip my boat and only keep her wet for a couple of weeks at a time at the most. I appreciated his candor, considering he stood to make about $800 from the deal.

Over the last 15 years or so, I've never had an issue with ablative paint coming off on the trailer... (either bunks or rollers). That said, I imagine if you had enough movement going on there you could eventually wear paint off.

I have ablative paint on my hull, and just a very tiny amount comes off on the bunks. probably not enough to worry about.
