sorry to see no one replied. John - they ALL leak (in our older C25s). Don't rebed them with 5200. Do remove the window frame and rebed on both sides with a polysulfide caulk like Boatlife.
Don't think you can just put the new weatherstripping in and the leak will be gone.
There is alot of info on this subject in the archives. Do a search for "windows" and get a cup of coffee . You'll be reading stuff for hours.
FYI you'll need to determine if the leak is between the frame and the glass or frame and boat, or both. As Jim said don't use a strong adhesive sealant like 3m 5200. It may work for a while but it will make future repairs very frustrating.
I've used plain RV window putty tape for the frame and boat seal. It's cheap easy to work with and replace. For the frame and glass I used aquarium silicon with some flowable silicon to finish it off.
If you are replacing the thin gasket around the glass inside the frame be patient. That is very very difficult and can still leak. The thick gasket is for cosmetic purpose only. It does nothing to seal the glass or frame, however, it is easy to replace.
I've done them both on two different boats so I am posting this on my own experiences only. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Some time ago I wrote regarding removing/recaulking/replacing a main cabin window, I think the title was windows tra la. Anyway, I used butyl auto caulk stripping between the frame and the cabin side. I would like to report that, although this process was perfect as far as no leaks, the caulk in the Florida heat has turned into mush and has a tendency to run and distort. Since it is black and the cabin side is the usual white, the contrast is startlingly apparent. Even though the stuff seals like jiminy, I would advise against its use in climates like SW FL. It will have to be our winter here before I can attempt to trim the excess, fair winds, ron Orion #2343 srsk
Hello 2622! Mine is 2616 and when I purchased her six seasons ago, her windows leaked like sieves. On the advice of someone on this web site, before rebedding the windows, I tried Automotive Windshield sealant. One tube costs about five bucks, and a thin bead between rubber gasket and window (overlapping both) and the leaks were solved. They have never leaked since.
I am about to immerse myself in this problem, too.
Could someone provide a description of what the "vinyl glazing channel" and "vinyl window molding" sold by Catalina Direct do, where they go around the windows, and which if either I should replace?
Got a LOT of water on board from Charlie yesterday via mid middle portside window.
I have been trying to find the gasket for the windows. Called Catalina said they did not carry them anymore. Where do you get them. All my windows leak, have a 1982 Catalina 25. It looks like the gasket might be part of the problem.
