The first time I had my 1987 C25 in the water recently, none of the cockpit instrument displays showed anything (except the depth sounder, beeping on an "anchor is dragging setting", until it was reset and then didn't beep or display anything further). Assuming batteries are charged and appropriate switches are on, what should the sequence of steps be for troubleshooting this kind of situation?

What instruments do you have? First check all connections. If you have a volt meter, check to see if you have current, or enough current to devices. Check fuses - if you have a group of instruments that don't work, there may be a short that caused fuses to blow. You can also disconnect battery and check for continuity in the circuits.
Lot's of good books on 12v boat electric.
Good luck,
