We sure have been hit hard with rain this week in Fl, figured while it was drying out today I'd check on the boat. I opened the head door and there was enough water on the floor for a gold fish to do laps in! If it wasn't for the raised lip It would of been all over the cabin. One more down pour and it was ready to overflow. Anyway I traced the leak to the bottom edge of the black frame (its not the opening port as I had thought). I would assume the port comes in two pieces, frame on the outside of boat and the inner frame which you put/tighten the screws into. I guess Catalina must of put a bead of sealant inside before the final tightening. I unscrewed all the screws and the frame seems glued on. Any suggestions? I don't want to force it off unless that is the way to go....then would you reseal with sealant and replace the frame?. Anyone ever experience this? What did you use to reseal?
Front hatch leaking again as well. Have had the problem on and off since i bought the boat. I ended up pulling the weather stripping off and replacing (again) But I'm concerned that the leak may also be coming from the support arm screws. They appear to have either 4200 or 5200 on them. When I have a helper available, I'll do the high pressure hose test to see what happens. Anyone have this problem?
Last found about a 1/2 cup or so of water in the bilge and a wee bit under the seats. Mystery where it came in. Sounds like Willys water problem.

Suzie,

I have had problems with water in the boat while on the trailer because the boat wasn't level. If you are on the hard make sure the boat is level.

Hi Suzie,

I found the bathroom port would dribble a bit if not tightened down evenly and firmly. I fooled around with the adjustments on the clamps until I got it right. You might also check the gasket on the window. It's been a while since I opened mine and I don't remember if there's a rubber gasket, but sometimes a little gasket sealer like sold in swimming pool supply stores helps prevent leaking.

I also had a puddle on the bathroom floor that I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It looked like the window, but eventually was found to be from a bad seal around my VHF antenna cable where it exited the cabin roof to go up the mast. Apparently the water was running across the cabin roof over to the bathroom!

Hey! Tell some of that rain to come over to the desert! We could use some big time!

Suzie;
I was getting water on the head floor, found that it was comming in around the screws for the life line stansion mounted above the head. We pulled all of the life line screws and rebedded the stansions with 5200. Solved our problem.

Suzie, I had to replace the port when I bought my boat because the plastic hinges were broken - probably from cranking it down too tight. You're right, it is in two pieces. It was a bear to remove. I think Catalina used 5200 on it. I had to work a single-edge razor blade and a utility knife around it to get it off. I used a clear silicone sealant on the replacement, which has worked fine. Before you go to that kind of trouble maybe you could try a little clear silicone.

Hola Suzie.....Do a search on my exploits and you will find a thread called "I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS ^Y&*^%" or something like that. Yes, the bezel comes of, yes you have to use force to remove the window, and yes mine leaked from a lack of goop at installation.

Forward leak for me was boat bow up on the trailer. But you're in the water. Still, open up the hatch, and with some ingenious design to be determined by you slowly apply water to the gutter around the opening from shore...... accurately replicating the normal conditions.

Do you have the cover on the main hatch? Does it need a dose of Scotchguard?

Whoa...just realized you just got NUKED......are yah still afloat?

Our head window leaks into the gear bag beneath it every time it rains hard. It looks a lot easier to sponge out the bag than remove the window.

What was more fun was two weeks ago when the entire window went under the water and flooded the floor.

Lake Granby CO, reef early-reef often.

Hey Oscar, we folk here in Sarasota got very lucky and Charley went to the east of us. Other than a bit of rain and wind we lucked out.
As for the leak in the head window...I believe it is indeed the lack of enough "goop". I took out the lower screws and applyed sealant around the lower edges and inside the screw holes. So far so good, but yet to do the high pressure hose test.
As for my main hatch, I got the cover in the Sunbrella package and believe it is a vital 250 piece of equipment (sad that this is the case). Before it is in place I can slide coins in the gaps on both sides. When folks speak of water coming in that area that is more than likely the reason. I couldn't leave my boat without one. Anyway dry inside with all the rain we have been getting.
Hope all is well with you! Look foward to seeing the new "Lady Kay" this winter!

I thought the basic principle was to AVOID submerging windows & hatches. I'll go back to my sailing books & see if I misread that part. ;-D
