I just realized that the cowl vent over my V berth has no way to block out the water if I am beating it in rough seas. hasn't happened yet, but I don't want a wet bed if this should occur. My 1883 "At Last" was neglected by the previous owner and I wonder if a part is missing --a flap?
Frank, your mentioning of the "plug" makes me address a little problem that I have with mine. The threads on the plug are all worn out, so are - to some degree - the threads in the opening. Is there a remedy /fix that someone can think off?
I have an old beckson vent whose plastic is so deteriorated that it just needs to be replaced, that is probably the case with you vent. Sometimes it pays to replace or upgrade.
