J'ville lucks out again. Yesterday I bought three chainsaws. I had three in the shed, but none would work. The shop wanted $95 to fix my little 14" Polan. And I had a small Mcullen (sp), but they are out of business. And one I borrowed from my stepson. Home Depot had 14" Homelite for $99. So I bought one as there were only four left. Then my brother called me on the cell and wanted me to get him one. The other day I bought a new frig at Sears and they had chain saws on sale, but didn't open until ten o'clock. So at ten I bought the last 18" saw they had on sale. So I took the 14" back to HD. My brother still owes me for the other. Then I was back to the Home Depot to buy a submersible pump, just incase the tidal creek behind my house starts to rise. After that it was off to Sam's Club for more nonperishable food. Sure hope this storm doesn't run all the shrimp off.

I do property claims up in the North West. Got the memo today: Pack your bags and be prepared to leave home for at least two months in Florida. Those that watch this sort of thing in the company are starting to talk about Andrew sized issues. Watching the storm close and hoping for the best for everyone there. Lets all hope for some changes in the wind & direction.

I too am hoping for a miracle that will send Frances out to sea and away from making landfall in the U.S. I have family strung out from Fort Lauderdale to slightly north of Boca. This storm is a monster and I'm worried about them.

My nephew is supervising the adjustment of all claims for a major insurer and has been tied up working on the west coast. He tells me that the devistation and suffering caused by Charlie was incredible.

Let's all hope that Frances doesn't cause a repeat of what happened there.

I figure as long as the storms keep coming we might as well keep the thread going.

My power came on today around 1600. So it was only off about twenty hours this time instead of four days. Jeanne took out one tree in my yard but it fell in the middle and no damage. (I parked the Silverado up on the road this time) The water in Jones Creek came half way up my yard and about two feet above my little dock. Went to check on Chick-a-pea this morning and she is just as I left her. Except that the water was lapping the planks on the dock and the wind was very fresh. But maybe now I can begin thinking about stepping the mast again. As I was looking for this old thread I came across Tom's post and they have new photos from this last hurricane.

Sure hope everyone else fared as well.

We left Fleming Island last Friday heading for Little
Rock Arkansas, not for Jeanne, but for some Family business that could not wait. So when Jeanne started to turn West we started to worry about PennyII and everything else. We have great neighbors who hook up my generator and checked on PennyII. I talked with them and they said PennyII's waterline was at the bottom of the dock deck boards, and rocking like crazy. This afternoon they went out and check her out. No damage no lines broke eveything o'kay. So we dogged another bullet, thank the Lord, just hope we don't see anymore bullets this year.

Made it through hurricane Jeanne OK. Experienced catagory I winds again. There appear to be a few more familiar looking shingles in the yard, and a few small tree branches. My house only lost power for a day this time, and my office was on generator for only a day and a half. I think there's been a Darwinian winnowing of the storm vulnerabilities in my neighborhood. The seawall is over a foot under water, but the dock stayed above water. My C-25 is still on its trailer from the previous hurricane. There's a little more water in the bilge, but that will drain when I change the zincs. I didn't get a chance to do a bottom job yet between storms.

I hope you all faired at least as well as I did.

Another week......Another Hurrivac! I just got back in today. We were in Maine since Fri. My wife has been home with the 3 kids for 3 near misses, and I have been very far away.
This storm took out several houses in the hood. 3 with serious tree damage. There is a fine looking houseboat very near the approach end of runway 27 here in Jax. The yacht is safely tucked away still in the back yard. This sums up the summer for me.

Days spent sailing........1!
Days without power........9 and counting!
Days away from home avoiding said storms......8!

Days till November.......33!

Tom.
