I just wanted to bring up the chainplate discussion from a month ago. With the hurricane drill this week, I have the boat in the backyard for an un-scheduled maintenance opportunity. I decided to re-bed the chainplates as the lowers had never been done. I have HN 5775 with the new style chainplates.
All 4 were in good shape. The only issues I found were with the upper screws. All of them were leaking and allowing water to get under the top plate. The starboard side of my boat has more sun damage than the port side. The starboard chain plates were fairly easy to remove and the silicone sealant used at the factory had turned brown.
The port side were held on with very securly by the sealant alone. It was still clear and was in good shape. I had to use a straight razor blade hammered under them to cut the sealant.
I re installed them and let the sealant set for 12 hours before tightnening them all the way. The top screw hold the plate down and allow you to remove the inner bolt turning this into a one man job. I am going to do aa complete teardown of the ridding to check the rest of it out.
