I enjoy a dip in the Sound on a hot day but climbing back in without a ladder is not an easy task. I tried a folding ladder meant to hang over the gunwale, that didn't work well. I think the best solution is to mount one on the transom.
Is there a specific ladder for the Cat '25? I have seen some in West Marine and BoatUS but considerations for the rudder and stern pulpit have made me put them back. Does CD have an original Catalina model? Can someone recomend a quality product and make me aware of potential issues in installing one?
JD - I have a bum knee and had to find a ladder which went at least 2 steps into the water. (The original plastic, gunwale-hung factory issue was useless). After bringing in at least 2 models from various manufacturers, I found that the Catalina 27 INBOARD engine's ladder works perfectly and there is just enough room on the transom to mount it. Mine goes on the stbd side and it was relatively easy to access the inside of the transom thru' the aft berth. The only pain is having to climb over the stern pulpit . Derek
JD - I think that I bought it from Small Craft Advisories (they were the after-market guys for Catalina). It was probably 10 years ago. Maybe Catalina Direct has one. I'm going to the lake tomorrow and if I remember I'll take a couple of pics. Derek

The E-1288 ladder is only 4 rungs, I think. I strongly advise you get a 5-rung ladder from Railmakers or Garhauer. The 4-rung OEM ladder is barely 1 foot deep into the water on a Catalina 25, making it difficult to use for anyone larger or more out-of-shape than your typical 12-year-old. I know this from personal experience, having had to replace the all-but-useless 4-rung Catalina OEM ladder on both of the C-25's I've owned. NOTE: The 5-rung ladders do stick up about a foot above the top of the stern pulpit, but the benefit is that they stick DOWN into the water a foot more than the 4-rung ladder.
Here are the pics of the C27 ladder on "TSU": The center of the mounting plate is 6 3/4" below the top of the transom, and the outboard standoff just fits onto the transom when the ladder is lowered. Derek
