Has anyone painted inside of the settees and the v berth storage areas?
If so what paint did you use? Has anyone tried Alkyd Enamel like Don Casey suggests? Any thoughts?

I use hull liner. It's a fabric like thin carpet with no backing and both makes it look nicer and reduces condensation and noise. Th stuff comes from various sources and works well. A long time ago, the French boats at the boat show in Annapolis were the first to use the stuff, got the name Poodle Fur. Dave

I use 'Easypoxy'... great paint, but no matter what paint you use, be sure to have plenty of ventilation when you're painting in confined areas.

I got pretty 'dopey' one evening while I had my head down painting the bilges on my boat... it was cold outside and I didn't have the ventilation I should have. After 20 minutes or so, my ears started ringing... and the horizon started tilting. I had to exit the cabin for fresh air in a big hurry... it scared the crap out of me.

Never do that again.

Interlux System 2000E

It's a water barrier and it's very durable.

Wear an organic vapor mask and circulate lots of air with a ventilation fan.

I faired the interior of my lockers with WEST epoxy and microballoons. Then I coated the interior of the lockers with WEST epoxy tinted white with their color additive. The smooth strong surface doesn't scratch, and doesn't give mold or mildew a place to get a foothold.

I have the adaquate ventilation thing down pat. I have a blower that came out of a 100,000 btu furnace sitting over the forward hatch. It blows everything throught the boat at a high rate of speed. Bumble bee shooter!

I'm not sure how "restored" she will end up, but it will get into the water some day. The gelcoat is really bad and the coach sides and the decks are delaminated. After repairing all of that, the decks will be painted. It won't be ready for the 2005 nationals at the rate I'm going but I am making progress all the time. You can watch what's going on here at http://home.wmis.net/~dhapp/page1.html

OMG! If I was facing a project of that magnitude, I would just go ahead and shoot myself! You have my admiration for your ambition, skill level and obvious optimism. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses... all the while being incredibly happy that I'm not the one doing it.

I think you're going to have an awesome boat when you're done.

Something tells me that you enjoy doing this... it takes a special kind of person to do a boat restoration.
