If you're going to be painting, you'll need supplemental wipe-downs with an appropriate solvent... Du-Pont "Prep-Sol" & etc. A local auto paint supply store should be able to supply you with the 'right stuff'.
There are dewaxing solvents made especially for removing wax when prepping a surface. Interlux makes one. I think maybe it's Interlux 303. I'm not sure off the top of my head, but there are a few similar products. I used such to dewax my hull last season prior to a rewaxing job. I wouldn't trust a dishsoap to do an adequate job, especially if painting was contemplated.
