Trailer needed for 1983 Catalina 25ft fin keel. Or if I can't get one, where do bi buy those stands to support the hull during storage in my backyard. How many and what do the call them and approximate cost. In Connecticut, I have to start thinking about this now.
George, West Marine sells boat stands. You need four. They come in various heights. Maybe someone else can tell you which size, as I have a swing keel on a trailer. The best known manufacturer of stands is Brownell. www.boatstands.com
Stands are only safe on resonably level ground and if you are on reasonably well drained soil that is able to stand moderate bearing pressure. Then they need to be chained together across the keel. If you are in a high wind area the rig should be down. Dave
I agree that a cradle is the best way to go for security. If you choose stands make sure they're chained together and properly placed to prevent slippage. And you can buy a fifth stand so you can move one at a time to allow you to bottom paint under the stands.
No matter which you choose, be sure that the keel supports almost the entire weight of your boat and the jack stands or cradle supports are adjusted to provide stability.
