I would like to say that West System really works!!!!. This weekend I cleaned the bottom of 'Amazing Grace' and to my great pleasure, it was as smooth as it was the day two years ago when I launched her. Not one blister or pax! When I acquired her she had a bad case of the pox, thousands if not more small dime sized blisters all over the hull. I sanded to I was blue in the face (old bottom paint blue) and let her sit 4 months in the Texas sun. I then followed the directions on the West System Epoxy and the results two years later say it all.

If anyone needs to epoxy their bottom before painting I strongly recommend West Systems.

Speaking of pox......anyone know whatever happened to the lady in Holland with the deck full of them? I'm searching but can't find the original thread anymore...hold on, rudder amidships, idle thrust, just found her and sent an e-mail.

So Oscar, I noticed you are the proud owner of a C42. You wouldn't have some photos of her around so we could "take a look" at what a really big boat looks like? Just nosy, not looking to buy one since I can't afford one (two college kid$), but I see that overhead shot and it sure looks like a really nice sailboat.

I used bottom paint from the West Marine Store in Dallas. I do not remember which one but it was the one recommended for our area (probably the one on sale at the time).

I completed my first stitch-n-glue kayak this year (a CLC LT17 from plans) using West System Epoxy. I will build another this winter. Although, I've not used other brands, I don't see a real compeling reason to switch to something else.

Here is a very nice article where several epoxies were tested. There are quite a few different brands on the market today. I may do similar testing before I embark on the second kayak.
