I will be taking the boat out of the water next week for winter (Lake Tahoe) storage. It will be stored in a marina yard on stands and shrink wrapped. What is the recommended number and location of jack stands ? Should you use some type of pad like carpet between the stand and hull? What is the best way to protect the fresh water system system ? Pump out the tank and run some cheap vodka or gin through the system ? How about the marine head and holding tank ? I assume you need to empty it out and flush well. Is there some type of chemical that needs to be run through the system ? After removing the sails do you just secure the various lines and leave in place ? I was going to pressure wash the hull but had some concern about damaging the bottom paint (4 yrars old). Should you use some special type of cleaner on bottom ?
Last year we removed all the cushions and took them home for storage, emptied the porta poti and water storage tank, poured in the pink recreational vehicle water system antifreeze stuff (non toxic) and pumped it thru the system. Poured some of the pink stuff into the porta pottie. Removed the battery, motor, sails and took them home for storage. Tied the halyards off to the stanctions so they didn't bang all winter. Opened up all the under cushion storage areas for ventilation (just leave the lids off). Placed a container of moisture absorber in a shallow bucket to absorb any moisture inside the cabin. The marina power washes the bottom and used 6 stands (I think - 1 bow, 1 stern, 2 on each side fore and aft of the keel), they also block under the keel (wing). I Duct taped the sliding companion way lid to the hatch cover so it would not work its way backward and put the canvas hatchway cover on. I took two pieces of 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe and attached them from the winches to the stern seats and covered that with a tarp then put another tarp over the boom. Used lots of bungie cords to attach everything. Also took off the main sheet and blocks and boom vang and blocks - tied the boom to both stern cleats. Came thru the winter with no moisture problems all bungies and tarps in good shape.
Even though you plan to shrink wrap, be intentional about the pitch position the boat rest so that condensate from the wrap doesn't drain into the boat. We had a report a few years ago about a 250 shrink wrapped for the winter and in the spring, the owner discovered water in the boat and the entire interior surfaces covered with a slimy mildew. All the cushions were lost. The advice then to remove the cushions is good.
I think this means there should be some ventilation provided fore and aft in the shrink wrap.
