While Im out of the water doing a new barrier coat and bottom job I was toying with the idea of replacing the knot meter. Well after a visit to the boat store It was going to be 300$ for the gage and sending unit. Im toying with the idea of just filling the hole and staying GPS all the way. I have never filled a 1 3/4" hile before so any tips or help would be appreciated. Should I fill it or plug it ??

If you're looking to sell the boat eventually, plugging it might be the better way to go. It would certainly be easier, the future owner might want a knotmeter and the hole would already be there.

How about a bronze through hull with a cap/plug screwed on it?
No need for a valve when capped.
