I have been dialogue with the officers of your association concerning nominations for the officers of the association. With Clif's resignation we have no candidate for Commodore, and the officer's believe that the appropriate thing to do is to reopen nomiations.
The purpose of this posting is to accomplish that.
The previously nominated candidates are:
Commodore: none Vice Commodore: Jim Baumgart John Gisondi Secretary: Don Peet Treasurer: JB Manley Chief Measurer: Duane Wolff
Since Clif's nomination, it has been suggested that I run for Commodore and John Gisondi run for Secretary. But those suggestion came after nominations were closed.
PROCESS:
Nominations will be accepted until midnight PST (3 a.m. EST) and the slate will be published on Monday Morning (Oct 18th). Nominations may be posted on this thread, or by e-mail sent to me, via the member link of these pages.
I will make arrangements with Spike to post the ballot and Constitutional Amendments on a ballot on the TellTale section as quickly as possible. With proper notification of the posting to the membership along with user name and password.
We will attempt to contact non e-mail members after the ballot is posted.
Electronic Ballots will be returned to me by midnight October 31st, PST (3 a.m. EST) with results announced on the forum on Monday, November 1st.
If you have any questions please respond to this thread, and I will try to get back to you.
Thanks for your patience and understanding during this time in the life of the c 25/250 National Association.
Don Peet, C25/250 2004-2005 National Association Commodore The Great Sacandaga Lake, NY
I nominate Don Lucier for Commodore; his efforts on this forum deserve the recognition that would bring. He has helped more members than anyone.
I nominate Larry Charlot for Secretary; he has tirelessly worked to improve the association’s documentation of yachts and is a very active association member.
I nominate Steve Milby for Vice Commodore; Steve is integral to nearly every decision this organization makes and he should have a post that reflects that. VC is also closely associated with racing in many organizations and Steve is our local expert.
I nominate Arlyn Stewart as chief Measurer; Arlyn’s dedication to all of the membership is legend. His knowledge about all things “boat” is prodigious; he would make an excellent officer.
Thank you for nominating me for Vice-Commodore, and for your kind remarks, but I have held offices in the association in the past and prefer not to do so at this time, especially when there are so many who are so capable and deserving of the honor.
Your nominations of Don Lucier and Larry Charlot are also well-considered, but I would like to nominate Don Peet for Commodore and John Gisondi for Secretary.
In recent years, our roster of local fleets became stale, with many fleets becoming inactive. Don urged them to re-activate, and developed new, simplified procedures for the creation of new local fleets, and his efforts have resulted in the creation of three new fleets that I know of.
John has served as the C25-250 Association's Mainsheet editor, ensuring that our members have articles in each issue of the Mainsheet that are of special interest to them.
I, too, thank Frank for both kind words and the nomination, but there are those out there who are way more deserving, and capable, of this honor than me. So like Steve, I must respectfully decline the nomination for office at this time.
Our procedures may not require this, but I heartily second the nomination of Don Peet for Commodore. Besides demonstrating a steady, supportive, constructive approach in his contributions to the forum, he has clearly stepped up in this unsettled moment.
I also heartily support Jim Baumgart for "Commodore of the Vice"--not because we shared that "special moment" on Indiscipline, but because of his (and Karen's) tremendous and largely unrecognized efforts as untitled staff for the association. I would love to see that flag flying from Indiscipline's spreader.
I have emailed the officers on this, but have not allowed for a reply. I would like to suggest that, if there is any way, that we send an email to members, if at all possible, to alert them to the current situation and need for haste. Seems to me that unless we go to this effort, those who don't check in regularly with the forum might feel dis-enfranchized. If time were not of the essence, I would send snail mail letters to non-computer members....but I don't think it feasible for the relatively small number of members involved. Thoughts? Is there a group email list of members at this time?
I think it is rather difficult for me to nominate one or two particular people since I have not met anybody in person.
I was recently elected Captain of Fleet 43 for a 2nd consecutive year at our year end awards banquet and meeting. So, I will do my best to nominate people based on what I have read of their experience and input on this board in hopes that the people nominated will help our association grow.
I have learned that over the past years that our association has, shall we say shrunk in numbers. I am not sure off of the top of my head the amount of current active fleets we have. But I would like to find, nominate and vote for people who have the time to help add to our fleet numbers. I would think the best place to start is by going back to the "old" non-active fleets in hope of rekindling them.
I know that it may be difficult for some fleets to be as active as our fleet was this year. But even a little activity is better than no activity. Our fleet went from an idea in the back of Meinerts head to a pretty good sized membership. We went from holding one race(Fathers Day Regatta) to racing every other weekend and next year things will be even larger with a Spring Regatta, Fathers Day Regatta, The 1st Annual Midwest Sailing Championships(our fleet plus other boat owners from Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio) and the Fall Finale Regatta.
Do I believe that this will be simple? No I do not, something that will be very time consuming. I would hope that the folks that are elected to offices are able to continue the work that this past group has done. Things seem to be heading in the right direction.
I would like to nominate a few people that I think would be a great asset to our association. Again, I have never met most of these fine folks. But I am basing it on what they add on this board and their knowledge. I hope to be in a position one day to lend a hand and possibly hold an office with the association. I would love to be a part of this organization as it grows in the future.
Now, my nominations:
Commodore: Don Peet
Vice Commodore: John Gisondi
Secretary: F.Hopper
Chief Measurer: Bill Meinert
Treasurer: Arlyn Stewart
I wish whoever is nominated and elected great success. The growth of this association is something that I would love to see rise in the coming years. I believe these folks have the knowledge and the ability to get that accomplished.
Thankyou for the confidence engendered in your nomination. As I'm currently serving as staff to the association as tech editor for the C250's as well as being very confident in JB's service as treasurer... I decline the nomination and will offer my continued support to JB.
