My Father who is eighty-two years old and I had a very cool time today motoring over to Naval Air Station Jacksonville on the St. Johns River. When we arrived at the marina the fog was thick as pea soup. So I followed a compass course (my old Magellan XL finally crapped out after 7 yrs. and the Garmin was on the fishing boat)until the fog lifted. By that time there must have been at least 200 other boats with the same idea. The air show had some PT and biplanes and a Tom Cat F14 and some other big fellow and lastly the BLUE ANGELS! They were so fast I could hardly get a picture.

My dad and I and my dog Mac cooked hot dogs on the Magnum and watched everything. It was a little hot today in N. FL - 85f. A lot of people were jumping in and diving off their boats and floating around in the water. Every kind of boat was there. But the only real problem was all the big stink pots plowing up the water. There were about two-hundred. It made for a very rough voyage home.

Check out the pictures on my FTP site. Here is the link... Ben - FL

PS. Let me mention the black smoke rising from the air field is not a crash. It is a simulated bombing that they did quite a bit for effect. Also the pictures do not lend credit to the high decibels of jet noise. If anyone has never been to one of these events, the jets fly by silent and then the noise goes by about a mile behind them. And then sometimes they would just rake the whole area with after burners pointed to the crowds.

Safe voyages,
Ben

Blue Angles? Gee, I got A's in Geometry, remember obtuse and acute and right angles, but none of them were blue. On the other hand, Jennie Cocoros, who sat next to me, was always getting lower grades than I, so her angles might have been a little blue.

The link works Ben. Some great pics. Particularly like the one of your dad up in the stern pulpit seat. My dad passed away before I owned the sailboat, he would have loved it.

Great picts, you and your dad together looks like a time machine double exposure. One thing though. Please get better photographic equipment. There has to have been unlimited hotties on those stink boats (appreciate the one effort). We land locked lubbers never get to see that part of boating, BUY A BIGGER LENS!

Ben,
Looks like you had a nice time. I went out Fri and watched the practice show. It was a downright dangerous experience. The navy cops had the whole river blocked and had a 4 square mile No-boating zone. It was from the North point of the base to the South point of the base. It extended all the way to the east bank! On top of all that, they continuosly moved the damn thing aroud during the show. We were so far away we could not see the show and said F_it and left. I guess my call to the Coast guard and Navy security officer helped them relax a bit on Sat. Great pix.

Tom.

Great pics, Ben. But the boat traffic is scarier than the diving aircraft -- or the angles !
