in trying to deceide which boat to buy, one has a HD trailer with Bunks the other a HD trailer with Rollers, which would be the better all around trailer

You're buying a boat based on what kind of trailer comes with it?
IMHO I don't know which would be the better trailer but to me it would be secondary to the boat.
(edit) There are others here that will be able to give you the pros and cons of each trailer type.

boats or pretty close in all respects, one an 82 the other an 85 but the gear and condition is close . the 85 is an hour away and the 82 is 8 hours away.

If the prices are close, the boats are the same, and the newer boat is closer, it's a no brainer. Newer boat, same price, closer...the trailer is a minor part of the equation.

I agree that the condition of the boat would be the first consideration, but the roller trailer is clearly preferable to the bunk trailer. It's easier to launch and retrieve the boat, and it's much easier to paint the boat's bottom. Look carefully at the condition of the trailer tires. Four good trailer tires would cost $300-400. Also, check the brakes. If they need to be rebuilt, that costs about $400. (for parts only - It's an easy job if you have any mechanical skill at all.)

I agree with Steve regarding the ability to paint the bottom. The rollers would be much better. Additionally, I have found that it's very difficult to wash/clean the area under the bunks. I usually have two dirty stripes on the bottom until I get in the water and scrub them off - I mean literally in the water.I don't see much difference in launching and retreval between the two trailor types though.

In either case, get the best boat of the two but make sure the trailer under the one you select is capable of getting the boat home.
