Does anyone have any knowledge of Laguna Yachts,,I believe they were out of southercalifornia in the 70's and 80's. Were they an offshoot of Columbia, Lancer,or some other defunct boat builder. Good rep, or bad ? Just saw one advertised and was curious ????
I think they are (were) the same as Balboa and also Windrose. We had a Laguna 24 and found it to be a fairly well made boat, ours had a shoal draft keel that seemed to result in a little excess leeway though.
I had a Windrose 18 by Laguna Yachts. It was really cute, but didn't sail worth a tinker's darn...Design is everything in sailboat performance, IMHO. Buy a proven designer's boat. Butler's sail relatively well, perhaps by accident. You can do better than Laguna. There were lots of "designers" and builders out there in the 70s trying to cash in on the OPEC mess by designing "sailboats", but many of them were powerboat companies whose products weren't much. I'd name a few of them, but I'd just tick somebody off (can you say Buccaneer, or US Yachts by Bayliner??????) ;) Gary
