After stalking a 250 for 2 years, and lurking on this forum for a similar amount of time, I have finally gotten a hold of a 250 WK of my very own. Thanks to the contributors to this forum for helping me with my decision.
Now to the first of my (many) questions: 1. Hull Number: the HIN is CTYA0430F900. So this is Hull # 430, built in January (F) of '00. Is this correct? 2. Battery: My first boat ('69 Cal 20) had a plug for a solar charger to keep the battery charged ("trickle charge") over the winter. Is there a way to create a similar arrangement on the 250? If not, what should I do w/ the battery over the winter?
Thanks in advance. Tom Bader 2000 Cat 250 WK Riverton, NJ
Congrats on the boat. During the winter I take my battery home and keep it in the basement so it wont freeze. During the year while docked, it is hooked to a continuous charger also tied in to shore power for two outlets on board (w/GFI).
I have 2 12v sockets located in the combing pockets, one on the port and one on the starboard. On the port side I have the wires run to a charge controller that is mounted on the aft bulkhead and then wired to the battery. I use this for the solar panel. The starboard side socket is wired to the main switch panel I use it for other 12v stuff.
Welcome aboard! I've had my 250WK for 3 months now.
Welcome to the group. These folks are a terrific resource.
Since you are in New Joisy where it actually gets cold in the winter, I'd agree with Zebra50: Take the battery home & put it on a "smart charger" so you don't cook the battery. Just make sure you have good ventilation & keep it away from the furnace (hydrogen gas+fire=Boom!)
Here's a string I started earlier this year when facing the same question. You can click on the link or do a search for "smart charger" in the files.

My apologies, but for some reason the link I posted does not want to work for me. No idea why this is so. Maybe I left off some critical punctuation soewhere. Has anyone else been able to open it?
In the meantime go to the search link & type in "smart chargers" if you want to see the info.
Frank: I thought mostly the same thing you did, but that it was a dig at the posting person.
