I just purchased a new C-250 (Hull #818) and stumbled on your excellent forum! I thought I'd drop in and say hello.
I bought the boat from a nice woman who actually won this boat on "The Price is Right!" The boat was on the stage of the show during the showcase showdown. The show aired last month in Oct 2004, in case anyone was watching. She does not sail, so she sold the boat. It has never been in the water.
I can't wait to get her in the water, and we are still trying to decide on a name for her. Given her history, we are looking for an appropriate name...
Oscar C42 # 76 "Lady Kay" (Ex. C250 WB #618) Georgetown MD/Fort Lauderdale FL "Hindsight is 20/20, if I knew then what I know now, I would now be living on a small wooden sailboat, making a few bucks here and there playing a guitar and singing songs in bars."

Is that the boat or the woman you bought it from?!
Congrats on the 'aquasition' and welcome to the association!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, I'm glad I bought a Catalina now. We really liked those names.. other ones we thought of were "barkers beauty", "showbiz" and "stage fright", but we are still looking.
Any recommendations when picking a name? Anyone regret the name they chose?
Congrats, Capt. Kurt , I looked at your new boat last week at the shop and she is a beauty. I have my 96 250 # 180 "Come Alive" at the pleasant harbor marina, probably see you on the water, best of luck, Dew
Great names everyone, thanks for the ideas! I think there is a winner in there, I will let you know what we choose... :P
Dewwey, I will look for "Come Alive" when I'm on the water. I have a ton of questions about sailing Pleasant. My wife and I took a bunch of sailing lessons in Santa Cruz, and read a few books, but other than that were newbies and always looking for advice!
Glad to hear it Max, hope to be sailing with you guys soon. AtEase, Nice boat name website.
BTW, is it worth the money/hassle to keep your boat in the water at the marina? Does the hull get slimed in Lk Pleasant? Would you recommend launching myself or using the launching service for $40? I will probably sail a couple days a month.
Capt. Kurt, I love having my boat in the marina,I can leave my house( 18th st and Northern) and be at the marina in 35 minutes, pull the sail cover , start the engine, leave the dock lines and we are off. Pleasant Harbor Marina is expensive compared to alot of marinas, ( this per other forum discussions) $ 318.24 per month, includes water , no electric or storage box. Also $6.00 per park entry or a yearly pass around $200, But Marina has a good store,& restuarant/bar. Plus there are alot of other sailors to talk to and about our boats. I go up alot of afternoons and spend the night often. Moonlight sailing is awesome. Later Dew
Cap'n Kurt, We had a West Wight Potter 19' in '94 to '96 that had a "Price is Right" pedigree. We bought her from the savy price guesser. It was our first boat and we had a great time with her. It's funny and you'll be surprized how the TV celebrity dimension of your boat is what people will be remember about it, almost more than anything else. You'll not find a previously owned boat in finer shape. CW
I am surpised no one has suggested the name "Enter-prize" Capt. Kurt! Is your new boat a wing or swing (water ballasted)? Congrats on the new boat. I've had mine since July and have enjoyed it immensely. I hope to bring mine to Lake Pleasant when it starts warming up again (in Phoenix that's about February isn't it?). My folks are retired and living in the Apache Junction area. I would love to take them sailing there. I noticed on the web site for Lake Pleasant the fees are $5 per car and $2 per boat. Is that per day or upon entry? Do they charge a fee for anchoring off shore? Maybe see you on the water!
Sterngucker, I busted a gut on your name suggestion! That is a great name. I will need to get my wife some prosthtic pointy ears :P SS Enter-prize is at the top of our list now.
I think park entry is $6 for 24 hour entry pass for car/boat. I'm not sure about the mooring fees though.
Our boat is named "Tiller Time". We haven't put it on yet though, still trying to decide on best place. Not much room on stern. Not sure if want it on the side.
I spend several weeks pondering that boat with my wife as I attended the Annapolis Boat show. Devon at the Hull company worked with me to put me in that boat. We had a firm quote and had a day to ponder it. Did not go for it for other reasons. I'm sure you got a great price as I did on it. We wanted a wheel and that option along with a new outboard and electronics brought it out of our "used" budget amount. I've followed their ads for awile and just saw that it sold. Take care of "my" boat for me!!! Lots of luck and good sailing!
Welcome to the forum. I own a C-250 that was actually on the stage at the Price is Right sometime early 2004. I purchased it in April 2004. Not sure when the show aired because my dealer here in Southern California told me they had more than one show with the C-250 as a potential prize. He told me that he trailered it back and forth to the sound stage a few times. He also told me that the contestenats don't actually win the boat shown on the stage, but that Catalina factory will build a new one for you when/if you win it as a prize. So, what that nice woman bid on, on the show, might be the boat I am currently sailing!!!
P.S. My wife had a name picked out for our boat prior to us getting it, so the voluminous names listed here were never in the running!!!!
