I recently purchased a 1978 Catalina 25 in remarkably good condition. The various lines, halyards, uphauls and the like are either incomplete or in "original shape" so I intend to replace them all. I have ordered the Cat 25 owner's manual in hope that it might help, but I want to know where I can get a complete list of all lines, width and length to redo the running rigging. One guy on Ebay is selling the whole package on Ebay for $460 or so. Is this worth it, or does anyone know<

Hi Derek,
This is a common subject and one that is always good for lots of ideas. First, do not go stock. Technology has changed a great deal and the original running rigging has no compelling reason to replicate it. There are several decisions to make.

For the mast:
Internal or external-
Internal is quieter at the dock, less windage on the water and generally a nicer set up, it is fairly easy to accomplish and there are choices to make as to mast exit strategies.
External is easiest because there is no cutting on the mast.
In either case you should get new mast head sheaves from either Catalinadirect.com or BelPat Marine. External halyards and you will need four and they come solid or with bearings. Internal you will only need two and can therefore use wider shaves and larger diameter line. (The diameter issue is one of handling, the current line technologies are so good you could use 1/8" if it would not garrote your fingers.)
Two halyards or three-
The third will require a mast head block.
Lead back or not-
Lead back needs a mast base plate for the turning blocks, deck organizers and clutches.
Not=nada

For the boom:
Outhaul purchase decision, lead back or cleated on the boom or mast.
Topping lift decision, lead back or cleated on the boom or mast.
Reefing decision, single line or double line, lead back or cleated on the boom or mast.

Boom Vang:
Solid or purchase. Hoe much purchase; doubled or not, lead back or cleated on the vang.

Cunningham:
Purchase decision, lead back or cleated on the mast.

Mainsheet:
Purchase decision, block choices, line sized to fit block choice.

Backstay adjuster:
Purchase decision, possible reconfiguring of backstay to the new block with running split adjuster.

Headsail downhaul:
Yes or no.

Thanks for response. You've given a lot of help. Boat is now in my shop (I am a Tech teacher with complete facilities) and time is no problem. Up here we have a lot of dead time between seasons.
