Does anyone have E-mail address or phone # for company making the WHALE PUMP which was installed in most or all Catalina 25s galley sink? I have parts list from 1984 listing mfg as Munster Simms Engineering LTD(an English Mfg), and probably distributed thru SEAGULL MARINE in Irvine, Calif. That Phone no longer works nor can I find an address on the net for them. I know they used to have a repair kit available but have no contact at present. Any info appreciated. Next call to Catalina Direct if this dont work. Thanks in advance.

I tried to get a repair kit last year, but the west marine guy couldn't find it. After he and I poured through his paperwork the only thing we could find was that it and the repair parts were discontinued. The cheepest pump they had was about $60 bucks so I have that project on hold. Figurativly and liteateraly, got to hold the nozzle in or it squirts out.

I know there is a pump on ebay for less than twenty dollars a lot of the time. It seems the seller must have a bunch because it keeps coming up on the plumbing listings in boat parts. Not the same as our pump but it looks like a good sub.

Have you tried an RV store? I was looking some time ago and they didnt seem that expensive.

Since whales have become endangered species, they can no longer be killed for their pumps...thus the shortage.

Anyhow, the top item on the attached link is what my '82 had in it when I bought it. They are in the price range that Matt mentioned but mine don't appear to be overly cheesy.

Here is the West marine part # for the service kit. It includes all the guts for the pump and made both of mine brand new.

WM#(142455) Add it to your cart and then you can check the local store. I found one kit at each of my local stores.

Fix the sink pumps was one of the first repairs I did to my newly purchased boat, 5 years ago. They still work and don’t leak, which to me is a pretty good endorsement of the fix. I took a few days going back and forth to the local Ace hardware store, looking through their O-ring “station”. I’m assuming Ace is a national chain, and the part numbers should be the same, if your Ace has one of these O-ring stations ( plastic pull out drawers grouped together).

Spigot O-ring
11/32” X 3/8”
STK. NO. 388058

Pump Handle
Remove plastic nut and clean deposits on handle with Scotch Brite

Pump Handle plastic nut O-ring
51/64” X 41/64” X 5/64”
#80 O-ring
STK NO. 35714B
(Put this O-ring on pump handle first, with glycerin)

Pump Handle plastic nut O-ring
Large O-ring
9/16” X 5/16” X 1/8”
#31 O-ring
STK. NO. 35745B

The pump body does not need to be removed for this fix. Carefully remove spigot and handle and the worn O-rings will be visible. I applied a small amount of Glycerin to lubricate the new O-rings. Can’t remember the exact cost of 3 O-rings from Ace, but it couldn’t be more than $5.00.

You should throw away the pumps you are working with and replace them with foot pumps. That way you can wash both hands at once. Or a dish. Dave

Lewis Marine stock it #4279-GP0418 or spars kit #9905-SK0405. It's called a Whale Flipper Pump. You can reach Lewis Marine on 800 327 3792.

I replaced my with a Fynspray--a much nicer unit that pumps as you push the lever both fore and aft. I recommend that over spending the time and $ to repair the Whale, or the similar amount to buy a new Whale. I can't comment on foot pumps except that I presume they will involve more installation than the Fynspray, which is a direct replacement.

I've seen threads and photos on just that. (Arlyn?) Sure, completely practical. The pump's about the size of a soda can. 2 wires for the switch, 2 wires for the power, a few hose clamps and fittings... Bob's your uncle.

I installed an automatic electric fresh water pump in my C-25. It was an easy upgrade, and it works fine. Along with it, I installed an accumulator and a strainer. Let me know if you need more info.

Its like the pressure tank on your well pump. Its supposed to reduce short cycling. IMHO they don't do much for you except add to the cost. I like the Shure flow and Quadra jet pumps. Use 1/2 dozen /year with no problems. Both will send you the odd fittings that they use to hook up in limited spaces if you ask. Dave

Found this 12V submersible fresh water pump. Put it in the tank and it won't take up and space.
Just a thought.
