I crewed on a J24 on Saturday, helmed by the best racer on the lake (C22 Natl. Champ etc.) Race 1 was in 5 - 8 knots and with a 155% and a full main we won easily. 200 yards after the start of race 2,a 20k
wind came through with a 70 degree shift! Was a very interesting few minutes! That race was recalled because of the shift, and while waiting for the restart I did a headsail change to the 100% - that was "fun" - haven't used hank on sails for a coon's age and on a heeled deck it was "interesting"! However, we were now comfortable and as the wind continued at 15 - 20 (with gusts!) we blitzed everyone except a Soling 27 which crossed the line a 1/2 boat length ahead (we won on corrected time). All in all a great day on the lake, but time for Advil when I got home!

As I've mentioned here before, I tried to get a crew spot at the local sailing club and they said, "Got enough crew, but we could use your sailboat." Hmmmm.

I'm envious Derek.

In that breeze, you did well against the Soling... In lighter air, you should be able to dust him. Winds were steady in the 20s here today--meaning speed and temp. But it was a great day for buying and selling homes--buying one with a slip attached!

Congrats on the new home, Dave! (Did you also sell one...)

Steve - why don't you take your boat to the races - if they have enough crew you should be able to "persuade" a couple to crew for you!
