Our sail wasn't quite as exciting as Jim's but we did have a good one. Temp on land was around 73, about 60 on the water. Wind out of the south 10-15. The sun would come and go but still a beautiful day for a sail.
My brother and neice heading out.
Me trimming the main and my brother at the helm.
Finally saw some eagles, 4 of them. They didn't want to cooperate when it came to taking pictures of them. These are from around 220-250 yards out.
I always like these shots.
Winging it back to the dock.
Fireworks at midnight!
All in all a pretty good day but like Jim I feel pretty beat up today!
I wonder if you can appreciate the effects that your pictures have on those of us on the hard. I've been out of the water since early November and it's a drag I'll attest to. Having seen the pics of you and your guests sailing was a present well received. Thanks a bunch. Buy the way how did you stay in the boat while taking that first picture, yikes? What was the degree of heel?
I have to ditto Val's comments about seeing this and being on the hard. SDS has really set in. I'm seriously considering attending sailing school in St. Petersburg in late February r early March at this point. I need the lessons anyway :)...that is unless someone wants to make a better offer for crew <grin>. All and all, looks like you had a great day and that's a wonderful thing!
Thanks for the comments! I'm more than happy to be able to remind you of what you're missing, though I'd rather be hearing sailing stories from you also. Val, I think it looks worse than it is. (We're not even to the winches yet!)
But the admiral once turtled a boat on the ICW, I just handed her the tiller as I inched(dinghy) forward for a brew and next thing I knew everything was afloat and boat horns all about, heralding our misfortune. Seemed to me a fun experience, no so the admiral,. Such are life's misteries.
She since required that any boat she was on remain upright and so over time I learned to sail thusly. To sail as you were doing would would cause her to go into orbit, and over time myself as well. I've since learned the comfort of being vertical-a-sea .
Have you ever considered moving down to Pine Cove? We have lots of Catalinas (38, 320, 30s, 27s 25/250s, 22s), with one dock all sailboats and an adjacent dock with the 38 and 320. We have a good group, I think you'd enjoy it.
Bert, I appreciate the reponse to my e-mail. Hope to see you out there soon.

Ben, I lost a brother back in '97, 45 years young, and since then my brother and I have really learned to appreciate each other. That and our love of everything water related (he's a stinkpotter but I don't hold that against him! His dream is to buy a trawler and head off into the sunset...) has us doing a lot of things together. He loves sailing but doesn't like the work it takes to go. In february we're headed down to Playa Del Carmen with his son and a couple of friends and every year we spend our summer vacations at Daupin Island Alabama together with the rest of our family. Plus we've worked together in our family's business for the past 20 years (he's been there 35) So I guess you can say I've been doing it while I can! Oh and his daughter, my niece, is also my godchild so as you can see we're all kinda close!
