I saw this on 60 minutes last night. It is a service of Google.

www.keyhole.com

Once you download and install, it gives you 7days for free. You can pull up satellite pictures of a pretty good portion of the world. I was able to find my boat on her mooring! It looks like fun for the few people snowed in.

There is an essentially similar, though slightly less polished, version of this service available free through NASA. Go to NASA's web page and search for World Wind. Pretty cool. I like it better than Keyhole b/c you can switch between real color satellite, false color satellite, 1 meter resolution arial photography, and charts and maps.

Micro$oft also has one also - http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/ I think it was a test site for a humongous database. The data is a little old but you can usually get satellite or arial photo.

A great site Tom, I just tried it and got a picture of my house and a couple of other places I
hunt and sail.

Now if I can just figure out who is parked in my driveway.

Took the seven day free trial from Keyhloe.com and pulled in things that I thought should be able to be seen. My house still shows a tree which has ben down for a year and a half. My mother in-laws home has trees still standing which were taken down in spring of 2003. Could not get any resolution at all anywhere in the Adirondack mountains. Its like the satelite didn't go that far north. I'll try the NASA site next.

Thanks for the tip on the Nasa site. The Nasa is a large download(250MB) . The neat thing about the Nasa one besides being free, is the Topo maps. They show Marine features as well. I just started playing with it and do not know if it is updated info. Or if it could be used for trip planning? Enough typing, It is 70 again here in Jax and the boat is calling.
