Well, it happened while I was taking down the Main. That screw in the mast that prevents the plastic parts from slipping into the slot slipped out of my hand, bounced once and went into the water! So, where can I get a new one? Regards, Will Stardust #215
I believe mine is just a 1/4-20 x 1" stainless. Any marine store or Home Depot for less. The screw is a stop and the slot is the gate. The plastic things are sail slugs. And by the way, buy two while you are at it. And welcome to the forum. It gets a little easier after you learn some of the nomenclature.
Will, you can prevent future loss by tieing a very small lanyard line around the shank of the stopper and the other end to something convenient. I have a long quick pin with bail making my boom to the goose kneck so I have the stopper and the quick pin teathered to each other as only one of them will be out at any given time.
You might want to see if there is an eyebolt in that size at your store. That way you could attach a light nylon line to it and also the gooseneck as a leash.
If you are talking about the sail stop which you slide into the slot and tighten down with a large thumbscrew. You can get one from Annapolis Performance Sailing APSLTD.COM Their part number is DV2350 and they want $6.35 for it. They have a special right now and shipping is free.
Thanks everyone for the info and for being patient with the guy who doesn't have the right volcabulary just yet. I also appreciate the tips! Best Regards, Will Stardust #215
There is also a "mast gate" available. A SS plate fills in the opening, but allows the slugs to slide all the way down, which makes for much cleaner reefing. I had one made for LK-2, twenty something $, it's a fellow sailer that makes them. Unfortunately I've lost the info. Maybe someone recalls? The 25 folks also had a bunch of them made about a year back....
I bought my mast gates (my mast needs two) from Joe Martinek (joemartinek@starband.net). Last I checked, they were $15 each, which already includes shipping. Just send him an e-mail. If your mast looks like this, you'll need two:
