Has anyone put a wind intrument on a Cat 25? I was looking at the Ray Marine ST40 Wind which seems like a good deal.

Cheers Jonathan

I found a handheld in the Jan issue of Sail.
It's probably not what you're looking for but it looks kinda neat.

Clarinet? Flute? Oboe? (sorry, I couldn't resist)

Arn't the clarinet and oboe wood winds? That would leave the flute

Jonathan,

A masthead mounted anemometer is a neat idea and certainly an asset if you can afford it & can use the information it provides. The ST40 is a nice unit but IMHO may be overkill for a C-25 or C-250.

Here's another listing of hand-held wind meters from the speedtech site. I've got the Skymate-18 and have been quite satisfied with it.

Matt: According to a website I found flutes, clarinets & oboes are all in the woodwind family. Interestingly, this group also includes bagpipes, saxophones & whiskey jugs. I guess you could put beer bottles in this group as well.

Like you said Jonathon, $300 or so for the ST40 Wind instrument (including transducer) is a pretty reasonable price, even in relation to handheld wind instruments. At that price, I would be tempted to buy one myself, but I'm waiting for the Standard Horizon Wind Instrument (WS45) to drop considerably (currently it's $600+ ).

I prefer the bagpipes as they prevent others from crowding me in a tight anchorage. This could also be called a defensive wind instrument.
