In my haste to oil my topside teak, i skipped the cleaning stage. I thought I had cleaned it w/ clorax cleaner.

Thankfully i did just the brightwork around the access doors and (1) panel. However when compared with the rails which were properly cleaned its like night and day literally.

Any ideas on how to clean a freshly oiled piece of teak, to get it lighter?

Thanks

Oxcylic acid (sp?)...or what essentially amounts to your standard over the counter teak cleaner. Use a brush. Then use your brightner and finish with the oil...Or in essence, start from scratch. We used to buy the starbrite package with all three steps. Worked good enough for my standards.

I have to admit, I cetolled my teak this past month and am extremely glad. (it isn't orange either) Even the thought of doing this pains me greatly.

I used to own a 36' wooden boat with beautiful teak decks. Here is an amazingly easy cheap and effective tip: Scrub your teak with a stiff brush using Comet cleanser. It is easy and the teak will look wonderful; the best ever. Then oil it.
