Does anyone know of a inexpensive yacht club to join just for the purposes of being able to race? My ride in the Newport-Ensenada race needs to know. Couldn't he just join US Sailing?

There once was a "mailorder" yacht club in Chicago. something Beach yact club. can't remember the first name. It was in the south suburbs.
Point being, they are out there. Just may have to do some digging.

Do a web search for your area. We've been shopping for a club up here so we can get reciprocal moorage. Prices ranged from about $165 to $15,000 annually. Guess which one we picked?

Our small club in the San Jaquin Valley has dues of $75/ year, with a initiation fee of $75 the first year. With that we get access to the lake when it is closed to others, got to be able to get to the boats if there is an emergency, and the use of our club house at the lake. We also share recipacal rights with other clubs. Way cool. Remember we are a small lake so the fees are proportional.

Scuttlebutt Yacht Club is an online club with NO dues. It sends a great daily email with racing news. Tom Leweck set it up, and wants it to serve just this function. One can download a membership card. I think you can Google them right up!

Jim,
South Coast Corinthian YC in MDR is $95 for application, and dues of 33/month. They are a "landed" club with reciprocal rights and are recognized by SCYA. They are an "Informal" club and are looking for new members. http://www.sccyc.org/ No, I am not a member, but I have been approached.
